8-hour class - Iowa law 322.7A(1) requires that all applicants for a used motor vehicle dealer license must complete an eight-hour prelicensure education program prior to submitting the license application to the Iowa DOT.

5-hour class - Iowa law 322.7A(2) requires that all used motor vehicle dealers that apply for license renewal must complete a five-hour education program no more than 24 months prior to the renewal application, unless the dealer has taken the eight-hour class no more than 24 months prior to renewal.
